Nest Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what personal data is involved when you use Nest, what we do and do not collect, and the rights you have. It is referenced by the Nest End User License Agreement and should be read alongside it.

1Our approach: local-first and anonymous by design

Nest is local-first desktop software. It is built so that your documents and the information you add to them stay on your own computer and are not sent to us.

We practice data minimization: we collect as little personal data as possible, and only what we genuinely need to sell you a license and support you. Nest does not require an account, does not contain advertising, and does not include analytics or tracking inside the application.

2Data that stays on your device (not collected by us)

The following are stored locally on your computer (by default under your user application-data folder) and are never transmitted to us as part of normal use:

• your original documents and the copies Nest keeps in its library;
• filenames, titles, document dates, categories, sources, tags, and notes you add;
• text extracted from your documents, including text produced by OCR;
• thumbnails and image previews;
• the Nest library database and search index;
• your license file;
• Nest's local diagnostic logs (see Section 4).

We do not have access to any of this. You control it through your own computer and your own backups.

3No tracking inside the application

Nest does not include in-app analytics, usage tracking, advertising identifiers, or third-party tracking technologies. It does not profile you or monitor how you use the software.

Under normal use, Nest does not automatically connect to the internet to send us information. The only times data leaves your computer are actions you take yourself, described in Section 4.

4Information we receive, and when

We (and the limited service providers listed in Section 6) may receive personal data in the following situations:

a. Purchase and license information.

Nest licenses are sold through Lemon Squeezy, which acts as our authorized reseller and Merchant of Record. When you buy a license, Lemon Squeezy collects and processes your payment and billing details (such as your name, email address, billing country, and payment information) under its own privacy policy. We do not receive or store your full payment-card details.

From Lemon Squeezy we receive the order information needed to deliver and support your license — typically your name, email address, the product purchased, and an order/license reference. We also keep a record of the licenses we issue (such as the license name, license ID, and associated email) so we can confirm your entitlement if you contact us, and help you if you reinstall or lose your license.

b. Support correspondence.

If you email us (for example at hello@getalbedoone.com), we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message. Please do not send documents or document contents unless we specifically ask for them and you are comfortable sharing them.

c. Error reports.

Nest can build an error report that you may choose to save and send to us. This report is created only when you ask for it, and is sent through your own email client. It contains:

• anonymized environment facts: the date/time, the Nest version, your operating-system version, the .NET runtime version, and the processor architecture — and deliberately not your computer name or user name; and
• Nest's diagnostic log files, after they have been scrubbed for identifying information before being included in the report. File paths, your user-profile folder, document filenames, and your Windows user name are removed where detected.

Error reports do not include your documents, their contents, or the text extracted from them. You can review the report file before sending it.

d. Software updates.

Nest does not contact the internet automatically. If you manually choose “Check for updates,” Nest sends a request to the Albedo One website to retrieve update information. This request does not include your documents, library contents, license key, document count, tags, notes, search terms, or any unique installation identifier.

As with any website request, standard technical request data such as IP address, user agent, time of request, and requested file may be processed by our hosting provider in server logs.

e. Website.

Our website (getalbedoone.com and nest.getalbedoone.com) does not use third-party analytics scripts, advertising, tracking technologies, or tracking cookies, and does not profile visitors. As with any website, our hosting provider processes standard technical request data — such as your IP address — in its server logs to operate and secure the site, and produces basic aggregate statistics from those logs, such as page visits, download counts, approximate country, and referrers. We use those aggregate statistics only to operate the website and gauge general interest in our software; they are not used to identify individual visitors or build profiles.

5How we use this information

We use the limited personal data we receive to:

• deliver your license and confirm your entitlement to use Nest;
• provide support, answer your questions, and diagnose and fix problems;
• maintain the security and integrity of Nest and its licensing system, including handling suspected license abuse or tampering;
• comply with our legal, tax, and accounting obligations.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising or to build profiles about you.

6Service providers we share data with

We rely on a small number of providers who process data on our behalf or as independent controllers:

• Lemon Squeezy — payment processing and order management as Merchant of Record;
• our email provider — to receive and respond to your messages and error reports;
• our update/download host — to distribute Nest and its updates;
• our website hosting provider — to serve our website (standard server logs, plus basic aggregate site statistics derived from them; no third-party analytics scripts or cookies).

These providers receive only the data needed for their function. We do not otherwise share your personal data, except where required by law or to protect our legal rights.

7Legal bases for processing (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another region with similar laws, we rely on the following legal bases:

• Performance of a contract — to deliver your license, support your entitlement, and provide the software you purchased;
• Legitimate interests — to provide support, keep Nest secure, diagnose problems from error reports you send us, and run our business, balanced against your rights;
• Legal obligation — to meet tax, accounting, and other legal requirements (largely handled by Lemon Squeezy as Merchant of Record).

We do not send marketing emails and do not process your data for marketing purposes.

8International transfers

We are based in the Republic of Serbia, and some of our service providers (such as Lemon Squeezy) operate outside Serbia and the EEA. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we rely on the safeguards offered by those providers (such as standard contractual clauses) and on their own compliance frameworks.

9Data retention

• License and order records — kept for as long as needed to support your license and to meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations, then deleted or anonymized.
• Support emails and error reports — kept for as long as needed to resolve your issue and for a reasonable period afterward, then deleted.
• Data on your device — retained on your computer until you delete it; this is under your control, not ours.

10Your rights

Subject to applicable law (including the Serbian Law on Personal Data Protection and, where it applies, the GDPR), you have the right to:

• access the personal data we hold about you;
• have inaccurate data corrected;
• have your data erased;
• restrict or object to certain processing;
• receive your data in a portable form;
• withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@getalbedoone.com. Because we hold very little data about you, we may ask for information to locate your records (such as the email or order reference used at purchase). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data-protection authority — in Serbia, the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection; in the EEA, your local supervisory authority.

Note that requests about your payment data may need to be directed to Lemon Squeezy, which holds that data as Merchant of Record.

11Security

Because Nest is local-first, most of your information never leaves your computer, which removes whole categories of online risk. You are responsible for controlling access to your computer and to the locations where your documents and Nest library are stored.

For the limited data we do receive, we take reasonable measures to protect it and rely on the security practices of our service providers. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12Children

Nest is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children below the age set by applicable law (for example, 15 in Serbia). If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

13Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The current version applies from its effective date. If we make material changes, we will update the version and effective date and, where appropriate, make the new version available through the application or our website.
